Description
Verbascum phoeniceum ‘Violetta’ is a short-lived perennial that forms a rosette of dark green, crinkled leaves. In late spring to early summer, it sends up elegant spikes of deep violet-purple flowers with contrasting golden centres. The richly coloured blooms stand out vividly against the foliage, creating an eye-catching vertical feature in borders, gravel gardens, or wildlife-friendly spaces. Its upright form and intense flower colour make it a striking choice for mixed perennial planting schemes.
Ecologically, ‘Violetta’ is highly attractive to pollinators such as bees and butterflies due to its nectar-rich flowers. It thrives in well-drained soil and prefers full sun, performing well in chalky or alkaline conditions. Hardy in UK gardens and drought-tolerant once established, it is a reliable and low-maintenance plant. Deadheading can extend the flowering season and prevent unwanted self-seeding. Its bold purple blooms add both ornamental and ecological value to sunny garden areas.
