Description
Salvia nemorosa ‘Negrito’ is a clump-forming perennial with aromatic green foliage and striking, almost black-purple upright flower spikes. Blooming from late spring into summer, it provides long-lasting colour and bold architectural interest in borders, cottage gardens, and wildlife-friendly plantings. The nectar-rich flowers attract bees and butterflies, enhancing ecological value while adding dramatic ornamental appeal. Its compact, tidy habit makes it ideal for mixed borders, low-maintenance schemes, or mass planting for a dark, striking summer display.
It thrives in full sun in well-drained, moderately fertile soil and is low-maintenance, benefiting from occasional deadheading to prolong flowering and maintain a neat appearance. Non-native to the UK, it is valued for its intense flower colour, long flowering period, and ability to bring contrast and structure to perennial borders and garden schemes.
