Description
Papaver orientale Nana Allegro is a compact oriental poppy, prized for its vibrant scarlet-red blooms with a contrasting dark central blotch. The ruffled petals are carried on short, sturdy stems above coarse, hairy green foliage, making it ideal for smaller borders, rockeries, or the front of perennial beds. Its bold colour and neat, low-growing habit provide a striking splash of early summer colour without overwhelming adjacent plants.
This hardy perennial thrives in well-drained soil and prefers a sunny position, returning reliably year after year. Fully suited to the UK climate, it is low maintenance, requiring only cutting back after flowering to encourage fresh growth. Its nectar-rich blooms attract pollinators, adding ecological value, while the compact form ensures it remains tidy and decorative throughout the season. Papaver orientale Nana Allegro combines vibrant colour with practicality, making it a standout choice for summer garden displays.
