Description
Papaver orientale Carnival is a bold and colourful oriental poppy, prized for its large, vibrant orange-red blooms. Each flower is highlighted by a striking black blotch at the base of the petals, adding depth and contrast to the dazzling display. The blooms appear in early summer on sturdy, upright stems above a mound of coarse, green, deeply divided foliage, creating a striking focal point in borders and mixed plantings.
This hardy perennial thrives in well-drained soil and a sunny position, where it will reliably return year after year with minimal care. Once the flowering season has passed, cutting back the foliage encourages fresh new growth later in the summer. Fully hardy in the UK, Papaver orientale Carnival combines ornamental impact with ecological value, attracting pollinators and adding drama to seasonal planting schemes.
