Description
Geranium phaeum \’Samobor\’, commonly known as the Dusky Cranesbill, is a distinctive perennial that thrives in shaded or woodland gardens. This cultivar is celebrated for its unique foliage and elegant blooms. The plant features deeply lobed, soft green leaves adorned with striking chocolate-brown markings, adding visual interest even when not in flower. In late spring to early summer, it produces maroon flowers with a white centre, held above the foliage on upright stems. These blooms attract early-season pollinators, enhancing the ecological value of the garden.
\’Samobor\’ is particularly valued for its resilience in challenging conditions, including dry shade. It is low-maintenance, requiring minimal care once established. Regular deadheading can encourage prolonged flowering, and while it is relatively drought-tolerant, occasional watering during dry spells will help maintain its vigour. This cultivar is also known for its resistance to pests and diseases, making it a reliable choice for gardeners seeking both beauty and ease of care.
