Description
Epimedium pinnatum subsp. colchicum is an evergreen perennial valued for its sprays of bright yellow flowers that appear in spring above glossy, divided foliage. The blooms bring vibrant colour to shaded gardens, while the dense, mat-forming habit makes it an excellent choice for groundcover or woodland-style plantings. Its evergreen leaves provide structure and interest year-round, and it supports pollinators when in flower. Hardy and adaptable, it spreads gradually, creating a reliable carpet of texture and colour.
Thriving in partial to full shade with moist, well-drained soil, Epimedium pinnatum subsp. colchicum is easy to grow and requires minimal care beyond removing old foliage in late winter. Its drought tolerance once established and resistance to browsing by deer and rabbits add to its appeal as a low-maintenance choice. With long-lasting foliage and cheerful spring flowers, it is a dependable perennial for shaded borders, rockeries, or naturalistic planting schemes.
