Description
Epimedium grandiflorum is a hardy, deciduous perennial admired for its delicate, nodding pale pink to lilac flowers that bloom in mid to late spring above a mat of heart-shaped, semi-evergreen foliage. The attractive leaves often develop reddish-bronze tones in autumn, adding year-round ornamental interest to shaded borders, woodland gardens, or naturalistic underplantings. Its nectar-rich flowers attract early-season pollinators, supporting garden biodiversity.
Thriving in partial shade to full shade with moist, well-drained soil, Epimedium grandiflorum benefits from removing old foliage in late winter to reveal fresh spring growth and maintain a tidy appearance. Hardy and low-maintenance, this species is valued for its charming spring flowers, decorative foliage, and adaptability to shaded garden conditions, making it an excellent choice for woodland or naturalistic plantings.
