Description
Acer palmatum Beni-Maiko is a compact Japanese maple celebrated for its vibrant and ever-changing foliage. In spring, the deeply lobed leaves emerge in brilliant shades of bright red to pink, gradually softening to greenish-red in summer, before turning fiery orange and crimson in autumn. Its small, upright form and striking colour transitions make it an ideal choice for smaller gardens, containers, or as a focal point in shaded borders where its vivid tones can shine.
This deciduous shrub thrives in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil and prefers a sheltered position in partial shade to protect its delicate leaves from scorching in full sun or strong winds. Well suited to the UK climate, it requires little maintenance apart from occasional pruning to shape and enhance its natural form. Its year-round seasonal interest, particularly the dramatic spring flush and autumn colour, makes Acer palmatum Beni-Maiko a standout ornamental tree that brings elegance, texture, and colour to the garden.
