Tradescantia andersoniana ‘Osprey’ – 2026

Description

Tradescantia ‘Osprey’ is a graceful and compact perennial that adds a touch of elegance to shaded or partially shaded garden areas. The plant forms dense clumps of narrow, lance-shaped green leaves, providing a neat and attractive backdrop throughout the growing season. In early summer through to early autumn, it produces clusters of three-petalled flowers. The buds start as deep red-purple and gradually open to reveal pale blue petals, each adorned with tufted yellow stamens. This vibrant display adds a touch of elegance and colour to shaded or partially shaded garden areas.

Ecologically, ‘Osprey’ is beneficial to pollinators, particularly bees, which are attracted to its abundant, nectar-rich flowers. It thrives in moist, well-drained soil and is adaptable to various light conditions, including full sun, partial shade, and full shade. This cultivar is hardy in UK gardens and is well-suited for borders, woodland edges, or containers. Its compact size and prolonged flowering period make it an excellent choice for adding year-round interest and supporting local wildlife.
