Sedum telephium ‘Summer Surprise’ – 2026

Description

Sedum telephium ‘Summer Surprise’, also known as Hylotelephium ‘Summer Surprise’, is a clump-forming perennial admired for its fleshy, grey-green foliage and clusters of soft pink star-shaped flowers that bloom from late summer into early autumn. The upright stems rise above the compact foliage, creating a bold, textured display that adds colour and structure to borders, gravel gardens, and container plantings. Its long-lasting blooms gradually deepen in hue, providing extended seasonal interest and visual appeal.

Thriving in full sun and well-drained soil, this drought-tolerant plant performs well in poor or stony conditions. The nectar-rich flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, enhancing the garden’s ecological value. Low-maintenance and hardy, Sedum telephium ‘Summer Surprise’ requires occasional trimming of spent flower heads to encourage fresh growth. Its combination of attractive foliage, vibrant blooms, and resilience makes it a versatile and visually rewarding choice for a wide range of garden settings.
