Description
Sedum spectabile, also known as Hylotelephium spectabile, is a clump-forming perennial admired for its fleshy, grey-green foliage and large, dome-shaped clusters of bright pink star-shaped flowers that bloom from late summer into early autumn. The upright stems rise above the foliage, creating a bold, architectural display that adds both colour and texture to borders, gravel gardens, and container plantings. The long-lasting blooms gradually mature, providing extended seasonal interest and visual appeal, and their dried flower heads remain attractive well into winter.
Thriving in full sun and well-drained soil, this drought-tolerant plant performs well in poor or stony conditions. The nectar-rich flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, enhancing ecological value in the garden. Low-maintenance and hardy, Sedum spectabile requires occasional trimming of spent flower heads to maintain neatness and encourage fresh growth. Its combination of striking foliage, vibrant blooms, and resilience makes it a versatile and visually rewarding choice for a wide range of garden settings.
