Description

Sanguisorba officinalis \’Red Sunset\’ is a compact, clump-forming perennial with fine, feathery green foliage and upright stems bearing dark red, bottlebrush-like flower heads. Blooming from June to August, the flowers provide early summer colour and vertical interest in borders, cottage gardens, or naturalistic plantings. Its neat, compact habit makes it suitable for smaller spaces, while the nectar-rich flowers attract bees and other pollinators, adding ecological value.

This cultivar thrives in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. Once established it is low-maintenance, needing only occasional deadheading to maintain appearance and encourage sturdy growth. Non-native to the UK, \’Red Sunset\’ is prized for its striking flower colour, early summer bloom period, and adaptability to different garden settings.
