Description
Rheum ‘Timperley Early’ is a vigorous perennial producing large, crinkled, deep green leaves and thick, edible red to green stems. In summer, it forms tall panicles of small greenish-white flowers, adding height and texture to borders or vegetable gardens. While primarily grown for its edible stems, its bold foliage also attracts pollinators and provides architectural interest. Its upright habit makes it a striking feature in mixed plantings or near water features.
It thrives in full sun to partial shade in fertile, well-drained, moisture-retentive soil. Medium-maintenance, it benefits from regular watering and mulching to support vigorous growth. Non-native to the UK, it is valued both for its ornamental foliage and practical edible stems, offering visual and culinary appeal.
