Description
Rheum ‘Red Champagne’ is a striking perennial known for its vibrant red stems and large, textured, umbrella-like leaves. In summer, it produces clusters of greenish-pink flowers that rise above the foliage, creating a bold architectural statement in borders, damp gardens, or alongside water features. The rich red stems provide dramatic colour contrast, while the flowers attract pollinators, enhancing ecological value and ornamental interest.
It thrives in full sun to partial shade in moist, fertile, well-drained soil, ideally with consistently damp conditions. Medium-maintenance, it benefits from regular watering during dry periods and requires ample space to accommodate its vigorous growth. Non-native to the UK, it is prized for its ornamental impact and eye-catching presence in large-scale planting schemes.
