Passiflora ‘White Lightning’

Description

From the genus of Passiflora comes the dazzling White Lightning or should we call it the Passion Flower, it is sure to give your garden that attention you often imagine. It gives birth to a torrent of exquisite ivory white flowers throughout the season of summer to autumn. What adds to its beauty is the evergreen sea green leaves that cast a gratifying contrast to its flowers.

Passiflora White Lightning is native to Brazil and loves sunlight. Plant it at a sheltered spot with plenty sunlight or part shade but away from cold winter winds. Plant it preferably against a wall or fence and also use it as a conservatory passion vine.

The evergreen foliage of this passion flower plant will continue to shine even in winters. But it is the prolific and unique flower shape of White Lightning that sets it apart from other passion flower vines. These flowers nest a brown centre surrounded by a large pale-green antenna that is crowned with violet-purple anthers.

This passion flower bears egg-shaped orange-yellow fruit in the autumn season and the birds enjoy feasting on them. It can grow tall in moist but well-drained fertile soil, enrich it with organic matter.

Support the plant with trellis or supporting wires so it can easily twine and climb. White Lightning as an evergreen climber will innovate the landscape of your garden plants, since such striking flowers are not seen too often.
