Description
Papaver orientale Burning Heart is a striking perennial poppy with large, velvety crimson-red blooms edged and veined with shades of dark plum. Each flower is centred with a bold black eye, creating dramatic contrast that makes it a real showpiece in early summer borders. The blooms are carried on strong, upright stems above clumps of coarse, hairy green foliage, ensuring they stand out as focal points in mixed plantings.
Thriving in well-drained soil, this oriental poppy prefers a sunny position and is fully hardy in the UK. It requires very little maintenance apart from cutting back old foliage after flowering to encourage fresh regrowth. Its bold colour and architectural presence add a touch of drama to cottage gardens and more contemporary designs alike, while also providing nectar for pollinators. Papaver orientale Burning Heart is a reliable and long-lived perennial that brings passion and vibrancy to the summer garden.
