Onoclea sensibilis

Description

A deciduous perennial fern more suited for shady areas and regions which can commonly found in areas with consistently high moisture such as near pond, streams or rivers. The Onoclea sensibilis or Sensitive Fern is named as such due to its aversion to frost as it will quickly wither come Winter. A generally hardy shrub contrary to its name with arching, broad, light green, pinnate fronds that tend to mass and overlap to create a good spread of groundcover.

Plant in moist, well-drained soils and keep partially or fully shaded in a sheltered position. Prefers cooler soils and grows well with constantly wet soils and in areas of high moisture such as rivers, streams and ponds. Perfect for waterlogged areas of the garden or around water displays.
