Description
Hosta Marmalade on Toast is a visually striking perennial that brings bold colour and texture to shaded garden areas. Its heart-shaped, corrugated leaves display a rich green centre with wide creamy-yellow margins that gradually lighten as the season progresses, creating a glowing contrast that brightens darker corners of the garden. The foliage forms a dense, rounded mound, giving structure and visual interest even when the plant is not in bloom. The slightly wavy leaf edges add additional texture, making this hosta a standout in mixed borders, woodland gardens, or containers.
In mid to late summer, Marmalade on Toast produces upright scapes adorned with pale lavender, bell-shaped flowers that rise above the foliage, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies. It thrives in moist, well-drained, organically rich soil and prefers partial shade to full shade, performing well in sheltered positions away from harsh afternoon sun. Once established, it is relatively low-maintenance and shows good resistance to slugs, making it a reliable and vibrant addition to shaded garden spaces. Its bold variegation and compact, yet substantial form make it an excellent choice for both display planting and functional garden design.
