Description
Hosta \’Guacamole\’ is a striking perennial that brings a vibrant splash of colour to shaded garden spaces. Its large, glossy leaves start with a fresh chartreuse centre, which gradually deepens to a rich gold as the season progresses, framed by dark green margins. This dynamic foliage creates a bold, mounding habit that can spread impressively over time, making it an excellent choice for ground cover or as a specimen plant in woodland gardens.
In mid to late summer, \’Guacamole\’ produces tall scapes adorned with fragrant, lavender-to-white, fluted flowers that attract pollinators like hummingbirds and butterflies. This cultivar thrives in moist, well-drained, organically rich soil and prefers partial to full shade, though it can tolerate some morning sun. Once established, it is relatively low-maintenance and can withstand light drought conditions, though it performs best with consistent moisture. Notably, \’Guacamole\’ was honoured as the 2002 Hosta of the Year and received the RHS Award of Garden Merit in 2012, attesting to its exceptional garden value.
