Description
Hemerocallis ‘Bela Lugosi’ is a dramatic daylily known for its large, velvety deep purple to almost black flowers that bloom in midsummer, creating a bold and striking feature in garden borders and mixed perennial plantings. The trumpet-shaped blooms rise above arching clumps of strap-like green foliage, adding height, structure, and texture to cottage gardens, naturalistic schemes, and formal perennial beds. Its nectar-rich flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, combining ornamental beauty with ecological value.
This cultivar thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Hardy and low-maintenance, it benefits from deadheading spent blooms and occasional division of congested clumps to maintain vigorous growth. Hemerocallis ‘Bela Lugosi’ is a reliable perennial, offering long-lasting summer colour, striking contrast, and strong seasonal impact in a variety of garden settings.
