Description
Epimedium rubrum is a hardy, clump-forming perennial grown for its delicate sprays of crimson-red and yellow flowers that appear in spring. These striking blooms rise gracefully above heart-shaped leaves, which emerge with bronze-red tints before maturing to green, later turning red again in autumn for added seasonal colour. Its dense, ground-covering foliage and airy flowers bring charm and structure to shaded areas, borders, and woodland-style gardens, while also attracting pollinators.
Thriving in partial to full shade with moist, well-drained soil, Epimedium rubrum is tolerant of a variety of conditions, including periods of drought once established. Removing old leaves in late winter reveals fresh new foliage and flowers, enhancing its spring display. Low-maintenance and resilient, this long-lived perennial is valued for its year-round decorative appeal and reliability in shaded plantings.
