Description
Digitalis parviflora is a hardy, biennial or short-lived perennial valued for its spikes of tubular, warm yellow flowers with brownish-red markings that bloom from early to mid-summer. The upright flower stems rise above clumps of lance-shaped, dark green foliage, adding height and vertical interest to borders, cottage gardens, and mixed perennial plantings. Its nectar-rich blooms attract bees and butterflies, supporting garden biodiversity.
Thriving in full sun to partial shade with well-drained, moderately fertile soil, Digitalis parviflora benefits from staking in exposed positions to support its flower spikes. Cutting back spent flowers helps maintain a tidy appearance and can encourage additional flowering. Hardy and relatively low-maintenance, this species provides subtle summer colour and architectural structure, making it an excellent choice for sunny or lightly shaded borders.
