Dalmate Fig

Description

The Ficus carica ‘Dalmatie’ is a highly regarded fig variety originating from the Dalmatian region of Croatia. It is celebrated for its robust growth, adaptability, and exceptional fruit quality. This cultivar produces a generous harvest and is popular in both home gardens and commercial settings across Europe.

‘Dalmatie’ is a bi-fruit fig, producing both breba (early) and main crop fruits. The brebas are large, dense, and exceptionally sweet, sometimes reaching up to 200 grams each. The main crop follows from mid to late summer, offering medium-sized, juicy figs with green skin and a vibrant red or pink interior. Its self-fertile nature means no additional pollination partner is required, and the compact growth habit makes it suitable for smaller gardens or container growing.

This variety thrives in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. It is resilient in humid climates, with thick-skinned fruit that resists splitting. Occasional pruning helps maintain a tidy shape and encourages healthy growth. With its combination of ornamental foliage, robust habit, and high-quality fruit, ‘Dalmatie’ is a versatile and rewarding choice for gardeners.
