Description
Chelone lyonii ‘Hot Lips’ is a hardy, clump-forming perennial admired for its striking two-toned flowers, which are predominantly white with vivid pink to red tips, blooming from late summer into early autumn. The turtlehead-shaped blooms rise above glossy green foliage, creating a bold vertical accent in borders, woodland gardens, and naturalistic plantings. Its long-lasting flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, adding both ornamental appeal and ecological value.
Thriving in full sun to partial shade with moist, well-drained soil, Chelone lyonii ‘Hot Lips’ is hardy, low-maintenance, and adaptable. It benefits from deadheading faded flowers to prolong blooming, and occasional trimming maintains a tidy clump. With its dramatic, long-flowering display and pollinator-friendly blooms, this cultivar is ideal for mixed borders, woodland edges, and wildlife-friendly gardens, providing both structure and seasonal colour.
