Description
Astilbe \’Vesuvius\’ is a bold perennial renowned for its fiery red flower plumes that rise above dense, dark green foliage, creating a striking display in shaded borders, woodland gardens, or damp planting areas. Blooming from mid to late summer, its upright, feathery flowers provide dramatic vertical interest and vibrant colour that contrasts beautifully with lighter plants. This variety adds a dynamic presence to garden compositions and pairs well with white or pink flowering companions.
Thriving in moist, humus-rich soils, Astilbe \’Vesuvius\’ prefers partial to full shade and performs best when kept consistently damp. Low-maintenance and reliable, it benefits from occasional mulching to conserve soil moisture and cutting back spent stems after flowering. Its nectar-rich flowers attract bees and other pollinators, enhancing both the ornamental and ecological value of shaded garden spaces.
