Description
Actaea simplex ‘James Compton’ is a striking perennial admired for its deeply divided, dark purple foliage and tall, upright flower spikes. From late summer to early autumn, the plant produces fragrant, fluffy white flowers that rise elegantly above the foliage, providing a strong contrast and attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Its architectural form and rich leaf colour make it a standout feature in shaded garden areas.
Thriving in partial shade with moist, humus-rich soil, ‘James Compton’ is well suited to woodland gardens, shaded borders, or damp, sheltered spots. Its dramatic foliage and long-lasting, fragrant flowers provide vertical interest and late-season charm. Combining ornamental structure, ecological value, and reliability, this cultivar enhances both the visual and ecological appeal of shaded planting schemes.
