Wisteria macrostachya ‘Blue Moon’

Description

This native American vine is a spectacular, ultra-hardy climber famous for doing something most wisterias cannot: blooming up to three times in a single summer. It produces stunning, silvery-blue floral cascades that are heavily scented, making it a massive draw for local pollinators. Because it blooms on “new wood” rather than old growth, it easily bypasses the danger of late spring frosts ruining its floral display.

To care for ‘Blue Moon’, you must provide a heavy-duty support structure and plant it in full sun with well-draining, neutral loam. While it is incredibly cold-hardy, it requires consistent, deep watering during its first year to establish its deep root system. To encourage those multiple flushes of summer flowers, you must stick to a strict bi-annual pruning schedule, cutting back the aggressive green whippy shoots in midsummer and tidying the woody framework in late winter.

Please Note: When purchasing plants, please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.
