Symphytum grandiflorum ‘Hidcote Blue’ – 2026

Description

Symphytum grandiflorum ‘Hidcote Blue’ is a clump-forming perennial valued for its dense, dark green foliage and abundant clusters of violet-blue, bell-shaped flowers that appear from late spring into early summer. The flowers rise above the foliage, adding colour and vertical interest to shaded borders, woodland gardens, and naturalistic plantings. Its blooms attract bees and other pollinators, providing ecological value in addition to ornamental appeal.

Thriving in full sun to partial shade with moist, well-drained soil, Symphytum grandiflorum ‘Hidcote Blue’ is hardy and low-maintenance. Cutting back after flowering helps maintain a tidy habit and encourages fresh growth. Its combination of vivid flowers, robust foliage, and wildlife benefits makes it a versatile and reliable choice for adding early summer interest to shaded or semi-shaded areas.
