Description
Sedum aizoon, also known as Hylotelephium aizoon, is a hardy, upright perennial with fleshy, lance-shaped green leaves and striking clusters of bright yellow, star-shaped flowers that bloom in midsummer. These vibrant flower heads contrast beautifully with the succulent foliage, bringing structure and colour to sunny borders, gravel gardens, and rockeries. As the flowers fade, the dried seed heads retain their architectural form, extending interest well into autumn and providing subtle texture through the colder months.
This robust species thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, tolerating poor, sandy, or dry conditions with ease. Once established, it is highly drought-tolerant and ideal for low-maintenance planting schemes. The nectar-rich flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, contributing valuable biodiversity to the garden. Reliable, long-lived, and visually striking, Sedum aizoon offers both ornamental beauty and ecological benefit, making it a versatile choice for wildlife-friendly landscapes.
