Description
Sanguisorba ‘Red Thunder’ is a clump-forming perennial with upright, slender stems topped with rich red, bottlebrush-like flower spikes from midsummer into early autumn. The fine, pinnate green foliage forms tidy mounds that provide a textured backdrop for the vibrant flowers, adding both vertical and visual interest to borders, cottage gardens, and naturalistic plantings. Its upright habit makes it a striking focal point while remaining compact enough for smaller spaces or mixed perennial beds.
The nectar-rich blooms attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, enhancing ecological value. It thrives in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained soil and is low-maintenance, needing only occasional deadheading to maintain neatness and prolong flowering. Non-native to the UK, ‘Red Thunder’ is valued for its long-lasting summer colour, compact form, and garden versatility.
