Physostegia virginiana ‘Miss Manners’ – 2026

Description

Physostegia virginiana ‘Miss Manners’ is a refined cultivar of the native obedient plant, celebrated for its elegant white blooms and disciplined growth habit. Unlike its more vigorous relatives, ‘Miss Manners’ forms a neat, clump-forming mound, making it ideal for borders and smaller gardens where space is limited. Its upright stems are adorned with lance-shaped, sharp-toothed leaves, providing a sturdy frame for the flower spikes that bloom from mid-summer to early autumn.

The tubular white flowers appear in dense spikes and are known for their unique obedient characteristic, where each flower can be gently repositioned and will temporarily hold that position. This makes them particularly appealing for floral arrangements. Beyond its ornamental value, ‘Miss Manners’ is a boon for wildlife, attracting pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soils, making it a versatile addition to various garden settings.
