Description
Papaver orientale Picotee is a striking oriental poppy, admired for its large, vibrant red blooms edged with a delicate white rim and featuring a dark central blotch. The ruffled, cup-shaped flowers rise on sturdy, upright stems above coarse, hairy green foliage, creating a dramatic and eye-catching display in early summer borders. Its bold colour and distinctive edge make it a standout choice for mixed perennial beds, cottage gardens, and focal planting schemes.
This hardy perennial thrives in well-drained soil and prefers a sunny position, returning reliably year after year. Fully suited to the UK climate, it requires minimal maintenance beyond cutting back after flowering to encourage fresh foliage. Its nectar-rich blooms attract pollinators, adding ecological value, while the long-lasting flowers provide both ornamental and seasonal impact. Papaver orientale Picotee combines vibrant colour with architectural form, making it a memorable addition to summer garden displays.
