Description
Nepeta faassenii \’Gletschereis\’, commonly known as garden catmint \’Gletschereis\’, is a hardy, clump-forming perennial that offers a refreshing twist on the traditional catmint. This cultivar is celebrated for its pure white tubular flowers, which bloom profusely from late spring through summer, creating a luminous display that contrasts beautifully against its aromatic grey-green foliage. The leaves emit a pleasant minty fragrance when brushed, adding sensory interest to the garden. \’Gletschereis\’ is particularly valued for its compact growth habit, making it suitable for borders, containers, or as an edging plant in sunny or partially shaded areas.
This resilient plant thrives in well-drained soils and is drought-tolerant once established. It attracts pollinators such as bees and butterflies, contributing to local biodiversity. Regular deadheading can encourage prolonged blooming, and cutting back after flowering may promote a second flush. Its versatility and low-maintenance nature make it an excellent choice for a variety of garden settings.
