Description
Monarda \’Mahogany\’ is a striking perennial that adds a rich splash of wine-red to any garden. From mid-summer to early autumn, it produces dense, globular clusters of tubular, two-lipped flowers atop upright stems, creating a bold visual display. The aromatic, lance-shaped foliage is mid- to bright green and releases a pleasant fragrance when touched. This cultivar is valued for its resistance to powdery mildew and its tidy, clump-forming habit, making it a low-maintenance choice for UK gardens.
Ecologically, \’Mahogany\’ attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, supporting local biodiversity. The aromatic leaves can also be used to flavour teas or add fragrance to gardens. It thrives in full sun to partial shade with well-drained soil and establishes quickly, performing reliably in most UK garden conditions.
