Lavender ‘Blue Spear’

Description

Lavender ‘Blue Spear’ is a standout English variety cultivated primarily for its spectacular visual impact, boasting some of the tallest, straightest flower stems of any lavender. The “spears” are topped with large, vibrant violet-blue flower spikes that sit close together and hold their colour remarkably well, releasing a sweet, classic floral fragrance. It is traditionally prized as the ultimate variety for drying and cut flower arrangements, as the robust stems remain upright and tidy without flopping, though its sweet flavour also makes it excellent for baking.

This plant is typically grown as a neat, compact evergreen mound that offers a more structural, architectural look than other looser varieties. It is hardy and robust, capable of withstanding cold winters provided it doesn’t sit in wet soil. For the best results and to ensure the stems remain sturdy and upright, plant it in a location with full sun. It is highly drought-tolerant once established and requires gritty, free-draining soil to prevent root rot.
