Description
Hosta ‘Old Glory’ is a striking perennial that brings bold colour and texture to shaded garden areas. Its heart-shaped, deeply corrugated leaves display a rich golden-yellow centre with wide, irregular dark green margins, creating a glowing contrast that brightens darker corners of the garden. The foliage forms a dense, rounded mound, giving structure and visual interest even when the plant is not in bloom. The slightly wavy leaf edges add additional texture, making this hosta a standout in mixed borders, woodland gardens, or containers.
In mid to late summer, Old Glory produces upright scapes adorned with pale lavender, tubular flowers that rise above the foliage, attracting pollinators such as hummingbirds and butterflies. It thrives in moist, well-drained, organically rich soil and prefers partial shade to full shade, performing well in sheltered positions away from harsh afternoon sun. Once established, it is relatively low-maintenance and shows good resistance to slugs, making it a reliable and vibrant addition to shaded garden spaces. Its bold variegation and compact, yet substantial form make it an excellent choice for both display planting and functional garden design.
