Description
Geranium phaeum ‘Raven’ is a hardy, perennial plant celebrated for its dramatic, dark purple to almost black flowers that bloom from late spring to early summer, creating a striking contrast in shaded or semi-shaded areas. The saucer-shaped blooms, often veined with deeper tones, are carried above deeply lobed, medium-green foliage that forms a dense, clump-forming habit. Its bold colour and architectural foliage make it ideal for woodland gardens, shaded borders, and naturalistic plantings, while the flowers attract bees and other pollinators, supporting garden biodiversity.
Thriving in partial shade to full shade with moist, well-drained soil, Geranium phaeum ‘Raven’ is hardy, low-maintenance, and adaptable to a variety of soil types. Occasional removal of spent flowers encourages fresh foliage and maintains a tidy appearance. Its combination of dark, eye-catching blooms, lush foliage, and pollinator-friendly qualities makes it a versatile and reliable choice for creating dramatic, shaded garden displays.
