Convallaria majalis ‘Hardwick Hall’ – 2026

Description

Convallaria majalis ‘Hardwick Hall’ is a variegated cultivar of the classic Lily of the Valley, prized for its striking foliage and fragrant white flowers. This cultivar features large, bright green, ovate leaves with a pale yellow margin, adding a touch of elegance to shaded areas. The flowers are larger than those of the standard species and are borne on long stems that arch gracefully above the foliage from April into May. Highly scented, the blooms attract pollinators such as bees, which are drawn to the abundant nectar and pollen.

‘Hardwick Hall’ is a tough, spreading, herbaceous perennial that thrives in moist, well-drained soils and prefers partial to full shade. It is well-suited for woodland gardens, shaded borders, or areas under trees. The plant spreads via rhizomes, forming dense colonies that can effectively suppress weeds. Regular watering is essential, especially during dry periods, to maintain its vigorous growth. This cultivar is ideal for adding fragrance and texture to shaded areas, where its bright flowers and attractive foliage can enhance the garden’s aesthetic appeal.
