Convallaria majalis ‘Bordeaux’ – 2026

Description

Convallaria majalis ‘Bordeaux’ is a refined cultivar of the classic Lily of the Valley, offering enhanced ornamental appeal with its larger, pure white, bell-shaped flowers. These blooms are borne on slender stems that rise above the foliage, providing a more prominent and elegant display compared to the species. Each stem typically carries 812 flowers, surpassing the 68 flowers found on standard C. majalis. The plant’s dark green, rounded leaves add to its visual interest. In late spring, the fragrant flowers give way to small, orange-red berries, adding seasonal interest.

‘Bordeaux’ thrives in moist, well-drained soils and prefers partial to full shade. It is well-suited for woodland gardens, shaded borders, or areas under trees. The plant spreads via rhizomes, forming dense colonies that can effectively suppress weeds. Regular watering is essential, especially during dry periods, to maintain its vigorous growth. This cultivar is ideal for adding fragrance and texture to shaded areas, where its elegant flowers can brighten the understory.
