Description
Astilbe \’Montgomery\’ is a striking perennial admired for its rich, deep red flower plumes that rise dramatically above glossy bronze-green foliage. As the season progresses, the leaves mature to a lush green, providing long-lasting interest even after the flowers fade. Its bold colouring makes it a standout choice for shaded borders, woodland gardens, or waterside plantings, where it adds both height and vibrancy.
This cultivar thrives in consistently moist, fertile soil and performs best in partial shade, although it can cope with sunnier spots if kept well-watered. It is low-maintenance, requiring little more than regular watering during dry periods and cutting back after flowering. Like other astilbes, \’Montgomery\’ is pollinator-friendly, attracting bees and other beneficial insects, while also being resistant to deer and rabbits.
