Description
Alcea rosea \’Chater\’s Mixed\’ is a stunning hollyhock cultivar that produces tall, elegant stems adorned with large, fully double flowers in a variety of colours, including pink, red, and white. Blooming from mid-summer to early autumn, the showy flowers can reach up to 10 cm across, creating a dramatic vertical accent in borders, cottage gardens, or along walls and fences. The rich mix of colours attracts pollinators such as bees and butterflies, enhancing garden biodiversity while providing a long-lasting visual display. This variety is valued for its ability to flower continuously through the season, offering minimal-maintenance beauty. Easy to grow from seed or young plants, it may also self-seed for following years.
Thriving in full sun with well-drained soil, Alcea rosea \’Chater\’s Mixed\’ benefits from staking in exposed areas to support its tall growth. Regular deadheading can extend the blooming period, and occasional feeding promotes vigorous growth and vibrant flowers. While generally hardy and low-maintenance, it may be susceptible to rust, which can be managed through good air circulation and removing affected foliage. Its combination of height, vibrant colours, and pollinator-friendly blooms makes it a classic choice for any garden.
