Description
Rodgersia podophylla \’Braunlaub\’ is a striking perennial featuring large, bold, palmate leaves that emerge rich bronze-brown and mature to deep green, providing dramatic architectural interest in shaded borders, woodland gardens, or alongside water features. In summer, it produces tall, erect panicles of creamy-white flowers above the foliage, adding height, texture, and visual appeal. Its dramatic foliage and flowers attract pollinators, enhancing both ecological and ornamental value.
It thrives in partial shade to full shade in moist, fertile, well-drained soil, ideally with consistent moisture. Medium-maintenance, it benefits from regular watering during dry periods and mulching to protect roots. Non-native to the UK, it is prized for its bold foliage, architectural presence, and ability to create a striking focal point in naturalistic or woodland-style plantings.
